Rectangle

An elongated face with an angular, defined jawline that is narrower than the forehead, and a forehead wider than the jaw.

Oblong

An elongated face with a straighter jawline showing minimal curve, and a forehead close to jaw width.Closely related to Rectangle, but with a straighter jaw and more even forehead-to-jaw width.

Jaw is the widest point with an angular jawline; forehead is narrower than the jaw.

Jaw is fuller and the widest point, with a rounder jawline; forehead is the narrowest point.

Facial Proportions & Measurement Guidelines

Measurement points below follow conventions from facial anthropometry (e.g. trichion, zygion, gonion, gnathion). The ratio ranges used to sort a measurement into a named shape are classification heuristics used by this tool, not universal scientific thresholds.

Ratios are length ÷ cheekbone (bizygomatic) width. Measurements. Photo and camera analysis uses an on-device facial-landmark model that maps points across the eyes, brows, nose, jaw, and face outline — technically comparable to the anthropometric landmark approach (e.g. trichion, zygion, gonion, gnathion) documented in facial anthropometry literature.[1] See how facial landmarks work for more detail.

Ratios. Distances between landmarks estimate face length, forehead width, cheekbone width, and jaw width, which are then expressed as ratios to one another — the same length-to-width and width-to-width comparisons used in published face-shape classification work.[2]

Interpretation. Those ratios are compared against the ten named shape profiles using a nearest-match scoring method, and the gap between the closest and second-closest profile determines whether the result is shown as a strong, likely, or approximate match.

Face-shape result. This is a practical classification approach, not a diagnostic or medical assessment. Lighting, camera angle, hair covering the face, and image quality can all affect landmark accuracy, and manual measurement is inherently less precise than AI-assisted detection.
